"Report on Baseball Activity"
Excerpt from "Report on Baseball Activity," by the Recreational Committee of camp #93:
“A feeling of resetment [sic] could be felt, from the regular employees and patients, at the beginning of our ball season. It got to the extent where we were called insulting and dirty names. And there was a group of employees who was continually jeering and making fun of us. But as we began playing as a group (we usually had 4 or 5 CO’s and the same amount of regular employees) with outside teams; we noticed a decided change among the patients and regular employees. After the first two games the group of jeerers turned to be rooters and they were very much interested in what we were doing and they were constantly encouraging us to win. There was a spirit of unity welded between the players and a noticeable difference was seen throughout the Hospital grounds. The majority of the employees have an altogether different feeling toward the C.O.’S. There are naturally a few who were calloused with hate toward us, but at times they too seemed to weaken and feel more tollerant [sic].”
