    9 C.O.’s are serving as ‘guinea pigs’ in experiments at the University of Minnesota to determine international standards regarding the minimum amount of vitamins necessary to sustain healthy adult life. Results should be valuable in making possible better use of available supplies, especially during the postwar period. Summary:

CPS Unit No. 115, subunit 25, located at Columbia University in New York, New York, subjected CPS men to experiments studying malaria.

 

Dr. Robert C. Elderfield directed this OSRD project studying the development of new and more effective anti-malarial drugs.  He examined the metabolic rate in the human organism of the new drugs.  Sponsored by the Department of Chemistry at Columbia University, the project ran from October 1944 through February 1946, utilizing one to three men at a time under the oversight of the American Friends Service Committee.
